Emojis are a great deal of fun. But if one British company gets its way then they could soon be getting serious.

Intelligent Environments, the company in question, has launched the “world’s first emoji-only passcode”, which it claims is both easier to remember and mathematically more secure than traditional passcodes.

Consumers simply chose four emoji characters from a choice of 44 for their code, giving 480 times more permutations than traditional four digit codes. The company says this also prevents hackers from identifying common and easily obtainable numerical passcodes, like a date of birth or a wedding anniversary.

There is no word yet on who might end up using the Intelligent Environments system. But when you’re entering beer beer sad face angry into your cash machine in 2018, you’ll know who to blame / thank.
