If you despair at the media venom these days whenever the issue of refugees comes up, then help is at hand.

Agency, a not-for-profit creative studio in Sydney, has launched Rehumanize, a Chrome extension that replaces terms like “queue jumpers”, “boat people” and “asylum seekers” with the word “humans”.

The agency explains its thinking thus: “Too often those fleeing disaster and despair are called ‘queue jumpers’, ‘boat people’ or worse.. ‘illegals’. It’s easy to lose sight of their humanity. This simple Chrome extension replaces these words and brings in a little more dignity. Let’s call them humans.”

“With a simple browser extension, we have the ability to change the conversation quite literally,” Agency executive director Murray Bunton tells Campaign Brief. “To re-humanise our newsfeeds.”

The extension is available now from the Chrome store.
