Make way chess dullards: it’s Yoko Chess - Tenshi Consulting

Chess is one of the world’s oldest, most traditional games. As such, you might argue it could do with a bit of a shake up for 2015. Thankfully, then, Yoko Ono’s Chess is here to thoroughly mix things up.

At a basic, free level, the Yoko Chess iOS app features chess as we know it (albeit on a 3D board floating in space). But if you buy the premium version you get two takes on chess that will have the purists choking on their beards.

The first, Doggie Chess, allows you to play chess with dog pieces – far more interesting than your standard Knight and Queen, I think you’ll agree.

Play It By Trust is the real gem, however. Based on Ono’s 1966 art installation of the same name, the game features only white pieces on an all-white board.

“Can you remember which pieces belong to your opponent and which pieces are your own?” the app’s description asks.
