From maths to maps, human beings have already lost the global crown in most worthwhile activities to computers.

But with our silicon chums now out to take on human beings in the art of rapping, we can only conclude that things have gone too far.

For this we an blame Eric Malmi from Finland’s University of Aalto: Malmi  and team have developed a machine learning algorithm called DeepBeat that recognises features of lines of rap and can then choose a follow-up line with a similar rhyme scheme, on a similar topic, from its database of lyrics.

It does it well, too: “An 82% accuracy was achieved for separating the true next line from a randomly chosen line,“ Malmi told Mashable.

Of course DeepBeat can’t actually generate its own raps for MC battling. But, really, how long can it be?
